Internal Conflict and Document Removal Spark Outcry at CINTAA Office

A severe internal conflict has engulfed the Cine and TV Artistes Association (CINTAA) in Mumbai, India, following allegations that official documents were removed from the association's office amid ongoing legal disputes. The incident has drawn sharp criticism from prominent figures within the entertainment industry, who have voiced profound dismay over the unfolding situation inside the organizational premises.
Actress Kunika Sadanand expressed her deep sorrow through a video message regarding the current state of affairs at the organization. She stated that she was extremely saddened by what she was witnessing at CINTAA, noting that in the past 40 years, she had never seen committee members behave in such a manner. According to her detailed account, questions arose regarding why documents were being taken out of the CINTAA office, which remains under the purview of the court, thereby generating strong suspicions.
Recounting the sequence of events outside the premises, Kunika Sadanand described how documents were allegedly being loaded into Poonam Dhillon's vehicle, prompting members to record videos and urge the police to intervene. She stated that Poonam Dhillon had attempted to grab her phone and break it, leading members to hold her hand while expressing disbelief at the action. Furthermore, Kunika Sadanand mentioned that Padmini Kolhapure defended the removal by stating she was taking the documents to keep them safe, to which the objectors questioned from whom they needed protection when numerous individuals were present.
Fortunately, intervention came when people associated with the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) managed to intercept the tempo carrying the CINTAA office papers and secured it with a lock. Kunika Sadanand noted that despite police advice to keep the papers locked up and retain the keys, the individuals involved did not comply. She also criticized the conduct of police officials on the scene, stating that they claimed the matter was out of their hands and that directives would need to be sought from the charity commissioner.
The operational turmoil is deeply rooted in a constitutional crisis within the association. Former CINTAA general secretary Upasana Singh explained that according to the organization's constitution, if 50 percent or more of the committee members resign, the committee stands dissolved. Highlighting this constitutional crisis, a press conference was recently held to demand new elections in order to restore democratic functioning within the organization.
