The disciplinary action was initiated after a video recording began circulating widely online, depicting the official utilizing an elderly citizen as a human bridge to navigate a difficult terrain. The controversy centers around revenue official Nilesh Namdev, who held the position of patwari within the regional administrative structure of the country.
The events unfolded specifically within Mata village, situated geographically inside the Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh, India. According to the documented accounts of the incident, Nilesh Namdev was journeying toward a designated location to carry out official government survey work. During the course of this official travel, the path required crossing a natural obstacle in the form of a water-filled drain that blocked the direct route.
Rather than wading through the water independently, the government official chose to enlist the physical assistance of an elderly local resident identified as Lalwa Kewat. A video capturing the moment shows the patwari riding directly on the back of the elderly man in order to cross the water-filled drain without getting wet. The footage rapidly spread across various digital platforms, generating intense public scrutiny and criticism regarding the conduct of the government employee.
In response to the viral video and the resulting public outcry, local administrative authorities moved swiftly to impose accountability. Priya Pathak, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Sidhi, formally ordered the immediate suspension of patwari Nilesh Namdev pending further administrative review.
