Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lankan bowler Asitha Fernando have both received official sanctions from the International Cricket Council following an incident that took place on the very first day of the Test match held in Colombo.

The governing body of international cricket confirmed that the two players were handed a twenty-five percent financial penalty alongside the addition of one demerit point each to their respective disciplinary records.

According to the official match reports and findings released by the authorities, the specific infraction committed by the players constituted a direct breach of article 2.12 of the comprehensive ICC Code of Conduct.

The unsanctioned on-field interaction occurred specifically during the seventeenth over of the Indian team's first-innings batting sequence, immediately after fast bowler Asitha Fernando successfully dismissed opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Faced with the charges brought forward by the match officials, both athletes formally accepted their respective offenses and chose to voluntarily submit to the sanctions proposed by match referee Andy Pycroft.
