Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lankan fast bowler Asitha Fernando have faced disciplinary action from the International Cricket Council following a physical clash during the Test match in Colombo. The governing body announced financial penalties and formal sanctions against both international cricketers in the wake of the on-field altercation, which drew immediate attention from match officials overseeing the contest.

According to the official findings released by the authorities, both players were handed a fine amounting to twenty-five percent of their respective match fees. In addition to the financial penalty, one demerit point has been officially added to the disciplinary records of each cricketer, marking a significant blemish on their recent sportsmanship profiles.

The governing body determined that the actions of both the Indian batsman and the Sri Lankan fast bowler constituted a direct breach of Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This specific provision deals with inappropriate physical contact between players during an international fixture, setting strict standards for professional behavior on the cricket field.

Match Referee Andy Pycroft proposed the specific sanctions following his review of the incident in Colombo. Because both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando formally accepted the proposed penalties, there was no necessity to conduct a formal disciplinary hearing regarding the physical clash.

Meanwhile, the broader context of the Colombo match featured significant on-field action involving other members of the visiting squad. Devdutt Padikkal successfully scored a century during the innings, while teammate Dhruba Jurel remained at the crease on ninety-five runs, contributing to a team total of 475 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 131.2 overs.
