DSE Index Drops 24 Points Despite Rising Trade Volume
The Dhaka Stock Exchange saw its benchmark index fall to 5,860 points on Sunday, even as total trade turnover increased significantly by 22 percent. Individual retail investors dominated the trading floor, accounting for nearly 91 percent of the market activity.

On the first working day of the week, the country's primary capital market, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), experienced a downward trend in share prices. Despite this drop in the overall market valuation, the trading volume at the Dhaka Stock Exchange witnessed a notable expansion compared to the previous trading sessions.
According to the official market statistics provided for the day, the benchmark DSEIX index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange declined by 24 points. With this latest decrease, the main index settled at 5,860 points by the end of the trading session at the Dhaka Stock Exchange.
In contrast to the falling index, the financial turnover at the Dhaka Stock Exchange climbed to a significant 1.131 billion taka. Specifically, the total transaction amount recorded at the Dhaka Stock Exchange was 1,131 crore taka, representing a substantial increase of 205 crore taka, or 22 percent, higher than the transaction volume of the previous day.
A detailed breakdown of the market participants at the Dhaka Stock Exchange reveals that individual retail investors drove the vast majority of the day's activity. Statistics show that individual general investors accounted for approximately 91 percent of the total transactions executed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange.
Meanwhile, institutional investors played a much smaller role in the market, with their participation accounting for roughly 6 percent of the total trade volume at the Dhaka Stock Exchange. Dealers contributed approximately one and a half percent, while foreign investors accounted for about one percent of the total market participation.
Market insiders and related observers noted that the recent developments and news regarding the finalization of loan-related policies against shares by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) have positively influenced certain sectors. Specifically, this regulatory update generated renewed investor interest in insurance sector shares, resulting in price increases for 34 out of the 58 insurance companies traded, while 21 saw declines and 3 remained unchanged.
