Dhaka Share Market Index Rises While Transaction Volume Hits 4.5-Month Low
Tension and a falling trend in Bangladesh's share market stopped after six consecutive days of decline on 20 August 2026. While the main Dhaka Stock Exchange index saw a slight increase, overall transaction volume dropped to a four-and-a-half-month low.

Tension and a falling trend that had gripped the country's share market finally came to a halt following six consecutive days of downward movement. Investors and market observers closely monitored the trading floor on Thursday, 20 August 2026, as the financial sector experienced a notable shift in market dynamics in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
On Thursday, the main share market, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), saw a slight increase in its primary price index. Specifically, the core DSEEX index increased by 16 points to stand at 5,786 points. Similarly, the DSE Shariah index also registered growth, rising by 4 points to reach 1,156 points.
Despite the positive movement in the core and Shariah indices, other segments of the market experienced mixed results. Notably, the DSE-30 index moved in the opposite direction, decreasing by 0.44 points to settle at 2,162 points.
Alongside the mixed index movements, the overall transaction volume dropped significantly, hitting a 4.5-month low. Total transactions recorded in the DSE stood at 671.98 crore taka for the trading session.
In individual stock performance, Sharp Industries led the transactions in the DSE. The company recorded the highest trade value with 20.05 crore taka worth of shares traded during the session.
Meanwhile, activity was also recorded on the other major bourse, the Chattogram Stock Exchange (CSE). At the CSE, the overall price index CASPI decreased by 2 points, while total transactions at the exchange reached 18.90 crore taka.
