COP-17 Bilateral Talks Focus on Climate Resilience and Land Degradation
Bangladesh holds high-level bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the COP-17 conference to address pressing cross-border challenges. Discussions center on enhancing regional and international partnerships for sustainable environmental management.
During the ongoing COP-17 conference, crucial bilateral discussions were held on the sidelines focusing heavily on pressing environmental issues including land degradation, drought, climate resilience, and renewable energy. These high-level diplomatic engagements aimed to foster deeper cooperation and address shared ecological vulnerabilities through coordinated international efforts.
As part of the diplomatic schedule, a bilateral meeting took place on August 24 with the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of India, H. E. Mr. Bhupender Yadav. The discussions between the two officials underscored the necessity of close collaboration between neighboring nations in tackling severe regional environmental challenges and sharing best practices.
Furthering the diplomatic engagement, a meeting was conducted with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia on Tuesday. This was followed by a subsequent discussion held yesterday, Wednesday, with the Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia, H. E. Mr. Sandag-Ochir Send, focusing on mutual environmental priorities and bilateral cooperation in combating land degradation and promoting climate resilience.
On August 26, another significant meeting was held with the Deputy Director General of the International Organization for Migration, Ugochi Daniels. This conversation explored intersections between climate change, migration patterns, and the broader humanitarian aspects of environmental degradation and displacement in the region.
Throughout these engagements, Abdul Awal Mintu emphasized the critical importance of collaborative frameworks in addressing modern environmental threats. He stated, 'It is essential to strengthen regional and international partnerships to address cross-border challenges such as climate change and land degradation. Along with sharing Bangladesh's experience and capabilities with partner countries, Bangladesh is eager to learn from the successful initiatives of the respective countries.'
