Commercial cultivation of foreign passion fruit has officially begun in Jamalpur, drawing significant attention from local agricultural authorities and farmers alike. This innovative farming initiative is currently taking place specifically within the rural confines of Malikadanga village, located under the administrative jurisdiction of Melandah upazila in the Jamalpur region.

Local farmer Noman Mahmud has taken a pioneering role in this agricultural venture by undertaking commercial cultivation on a dedicated plot of land. According to the verified field details, Noman Mahmud has successfully planted a total of seventy-two passion fruit saplings across an area measuring one bigha of land.

The commercial cultivation of this foreign fruit has proven to be remarkably lucrative for the growers involved in the project. Market rates for the harvest are exceptionally strong, with passion fruit currently fetching between six hundred and seven hundred Bangladeshi taka per kilogram in the marketplace. Demonstrating the financial viability of this crop, Noman Mahmud has already generated substantial revenue, successfully selling passion fruit valued at one hundred thousand taka.

Beyond the primary one-bigha cultivation site, agricultural expansion of the fruit is also visible elsewhere in the area, including a separate garden established on ten decimalsof land. Local agricultural specialists note that passion fruit plants possess remarkable longevity, providing a continuous harvest for approximately fifteen years after initial planting.

The oversight and guidance for local agricultural endeavors in the region are provided by the institutional framework of the agriculture department. Specifically, the Melandah Upazila Agriculture Office plays a crucial advisory role, with Abdur Rouf currently serving in his official capacity as the Melandah Upazila Agriculture Officer.
