BCB Targets Four Venues for Large-Scale T20 Tournament in December

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is currently planning to host a large-scale T20 tournament in the upcoming month of December. As part of these preparations, the board is evaluating several potential venues across the country to determine their readiness for hosting the major sporting event.

Officials have primarily targeted four specific locations under consideration for the tournament: Khulna, Barishal, Bogura, and Rajshahi. However, the final selection depends heavily on the evaluation of inspection reports regarding the current state of these venues and whether they meet the necessary hosting standards.

Addressing the infrastructure requirements, tournament planning involves careful consideration of spectator attendance, proper seating arrangements, adequate dressing rooms, and appropriate working spaces for journalists. If any of the targeted venues fail to meet these essential quality standards, matches cannot be hosted there, and the board will make a final decision after reviewing the inspection reports.

Board officials noted that venues have deteriorated over time due to neglect, lack of basic maintenance, and heavy usage from events like the National Cricket League (NCL), which has left grounds in Khulna, Bogura, and other locations damaged. Additionally, facilities such as Barishal are not yet fully ready, creating challenges in finding suitable grounds that match the required standards for hosting competitive cricket.

Significant financial investments are underway to address these infrastructure hurdles, notably through the National Sports Council (NSC). A major National Sports Council project for Khulna, valued at over 550 crore Taka, has already passed and successfully gone through the tender process, with construction work expected to begin soon in the region.

The board maintains ongoing communication with the NSC through letters and official discussions to push for necessary improvements. While the BCB takes all possible initiatives from its end, officials emphasized that the fundamental groundwork remains the responsibility of the National Sports Council to ensure venues reach the standard required for high-level competition.
