BCB clarifies nine cricketers are free to play after BPL fixing suspicions
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has confirmed that nine cricketers, including Enamul Haque Bijoy, who missed the 12th season of the Bangladesh Premier League due to fixing suspicions, are not officially banned. Officials stated that none of the players have been formally accused and all remain completely free to play cricket.
On Saturday in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) addressed the status of nine cricketers who were previously excluded from participating in the 12th season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The players, a group that includes Enamul Haque Bijoy, had missed the BPL season 12 tournament because of swirling suspicions regarding match-fixing. However, cricket authorities have now clarified their official standing.
During a press conference, Alex Marshal provided crucial details regarding the situation of the affected athletes. Marshal explained that prior to the 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League, a recommendation had been issued advising that these specific individuals not be invited to participate, but that restriction applied strictly and solely to that single tournament.
Addressing the severity of the suspicions, Marshal explicitly stated during the press briefing that none of the nine cricketers in question have ever been officially accused of any wrongdoing. Because no formal charges or official bans have been levied against them, authorities confirmed that they currently face absolutely no restrictions on their careers and are completely free to play cricket moving forward.
The scrutiny surrounding the players stemmed from a comprehensive inquiry into integrity issues within the domestic T20 competition. An independent investigation committee was previously formed to thoroughly examine allegations of spot-fixing within the Bangladesh Premier League. That extensive investigative body ultimately compiled and prepared a massive report consisting of nearly 900 pages detailing their findings on spot-fixing in the BPL.
Despite the exhaustive nature of the nearly 900-page independent investigation committee report, the findings did not result in official bans or formal accusations against Enamul Haque Bijoy and the eight other cricketers who sat out the BPL season 12 matches. With the tournament-specific advisory now concluded and no official sanctions in place, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has officially cleared the path for the athletes to resume their sporting activities without impediment.
