Bangladesh has experienced a notable upward trajectory in its ready-made garment shipments to the United States market, according to official trade data covering the opening months of the current fiscal period. Data compiled by the Export Promotion Bureau and analyzed by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association alongside the Bangladesh Apparel Voice highlights a resilient start for the country's primary export sector in the American market.

During the first two months of the 2026-27 fiscal year, encompassing July and August, total readymade garment exports to the United States reached 1.6129 billion USD, which translates to 161 crore 29 lakh 20 thousand dollars. This performance marks a significant expansion when compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, during which exports stood at 1.4476 billion USD.

When evaluating the broader economic context, this recent growth builds upon the total United States export amount of 774 crore 46 lakh 10 thousand dollars recorded throughout the entire 2025-26 fiscal year. While the previous fiscal year maintained a monthly average of 64 crore 54 lakh dollars, the current fiscal year has initiated with a much higher monthly average of 80 crore 65 lakh dollars across the first two months.

A closer examination of the bi-monthly data reveals contrasting monthly performances, with July experiencing a slight export decrease rate of 0.18 percent. However, the subsequent month of August rebounded strongly, registering a substantial export growth rate of 25.65 percent, which ultimately propelled the cumulative two-month export growth rate to 11.42 percent compared to the same timeframe in the previous fiscal year.

Commenting on these trade developments, Mohiuddin Rubel addressed the significance of the figures for the domestic industry. Rubel stated that the 11.42 percent export growth in the United States market during the first two months of the current fiscal year is undoubtedly a positive signal for the sector.

Rubel further noted that while the 25.65 percent growth in August is particularly important, it should not be viewed as a definitive trend for the entire year without observing data from several more months. He explained that because exports decreased slightly in July, the overall two-month growth remains heavily dependent upon the strong performance recorded in August, with a projected year-end export amount of 862 crore 90 lakh dollars currently anticipated.
