Bangladesh National Confesses to Attack on Bollywood Actor Saif Ali Khan
A Bangladeshi national has pleaded guilty in an Indian court for the January 2025 attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. The accused, also known as Vijay Das, made the confession during a court hearing in Bandra on Friday.

A Bangladeshi national identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam, who also goes by the alias Vijay Das, has formally admitted responsibility for the attack on prominent Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. According to reports from media organizations including Hindustan Times and Dhaka Post, the startling confession took place during legal proceedings held on Friday, August 29, 2025.
The violent incident itself dates back to January 2025, when the assault occurred directly inside Saif Ali Khan's private residence located in Bandra, India. The breach and subsequent attack on the renowned film star triggered an extensive law enforcement investigation last winter, leading to a manhunt and the eventual apprehension of the suspect.
Law enforcement authorities successfully tracked down and arrested Mohammad Shariful Islam nearly eight months ago on January 18, 2025, in Thane. Since that time, the legal case has been moving through the Indian judicial system, culminating in Friday's court appearance before Judge Mahesh Ramrao at the sessions court.
During the court session on Friday, the accused was formally presented before Judge Mahesh Ramrao. Rather than contesting the serious charges levied against him following the January break-in and assault, the Bangladeshi national chose to acknowledge his culpability before the presiding judge.
Legal representatives speaking on the matter provided insight into the defendant's sudden change in legal strategy during the hearing. Vipul Dusing, commenting on the proceedings, stated that the accused is remorseful for the actions he committed and has consequently sought leniency from the court in terms of his upcoming sentencing.
