The government of Bangladesh has officially issued the long-awaited gazette notification for a brand new pay scale and salary structure for the country's public sector officials and employees. The announcement was officially finalized and promulgated on Saturday afternoon under the formal title of the Services (Salary and Allowances) Order, 2026, marking a major development for the nation's civil administration.

According to the newly released structural framework, the updated pay scale is scheduled to take effect immediately from the month of July of this current year. As part of the phased implementation plan, officials belonging to the first through the ninth grades will receive forty percent of their new basic salary starting from July 2026. Meanwhile, employees and officials positioned in the tenth through the twentieth grades will see fifty percent of their increased salary implemented during this very same upcoming July.

The financial implementation will progress further into the following year, with the government scheduling an expanded phase from the first of January 2027 through June 2027. During this upcoming secondary phase, seventy percent of the increased basic salary for the first through ninth grades will take effect, alongside seventy-five percent for those positioned within the tenth through twentieth grades.

Significant salary adjustments have been officially structured across the entire administrative hierarchy, most notably at the foundational and top tiers of public service. The minimum entry-level salary, designated at the twentieth grade, has been substantially increased from eight thousand two hundred and fifty taka to twenty thousand taka, reflecting a massive one hundred and forty-two percent pay hike for this lowest tier. At the opposite end of the spectrum, the salary for the first grade has been doubled from seventy-eight thousand taka to one lakh fifty-six thousand taka.

Further upward revisions have also been established for top-ranking administrative positions throughout the government apparatus. The basic salary for senior secretary posts will increase from eighty-two thousand taka to one lakh sixty-four thousand taka, while the salaries for cabinet secretary, principal secretary to the prime minister, and equivalent positions will climb from eighty-six thousand taka to one lakh seventy-two thousand taka.

In a notable humanitarian addition to the welfare benefits, the government is introducing a disability allowance for the very first time, providing a monthly stipend of three thousand taka for disabled children of employees. Statistical records indicate that the country currently maintains approximately fourteen lakh government job holders alongside roughly nine lakh pensioners, all of whom are directly impacted by these sweeping administrative and financial reforms.
