Bangladesh Forecasts 1,652MW Load Shedding During Evening Peak Hours

Bangladesh is bracing for significant electricity shortages as data analysis from Power Grid Bangladesh PLC indicates a potential load shedding of 1,652 megawatts during the upcoming evening peak hours. The scheduled interruptions stem directly from an overarching power deficit affecting the entire nation, prompting grid operators to manage supply constraints through planned reductions in electricity distribution across multiple regions simultaneously.

The capital region is set to bear the heaviest burden of the power cuts, with the Dhaka area facing a predicted load shedding of up to 450 megawatts. As the country's most densely populated commercial and administrative hub, the substantial deficit in Dhaka highlights the acute nature of the evening peak hour supply challenge currently managed by utility providers.

Other divisions across Bangladesh will similarly experience varying degrees of electricity curtailment based on regional demand and grid allocation. Mymensingh is projected to encounter 300 megawatts of load shedding, while Khulna faces a calculated deficit of 200 megawatts as the power grid struggles to balance generation capacity with consumer demand.

Further regional allocations show that Rajshahi will endure 170 megawatts of load shedding, and Cumilla is slated for 150 megawatts of power reductions during the high-demand evening window. Meanwhile, major urban and regional centers in Chattogram and Sylhet are each forecasted to experience a deficit of 100 megawatts.

At the lower end of the distribution spectrum, Barishal region faces the lowest predicted load shedding in the country, with an estimated deficit of 40 megawatts. Despite the smaller volume, this targeted reduction remains a necessary component of the nationwide strategy implemented by Power Grid Bangladesh PLC for August 31, 2026.
