Bangladesh Forecast Predicts Below-Normal Rain and Potential Cyclones

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has officially released its quarterly weather outlook covering the months of September through November 2026. According to the newly published seasonal data, the country is anticipated to experience below-normal rainfall throughout this upcoming three-month period. This projection follows a preceding month that also registered diminished precipitation levels across the nation, establishing a drier meteorological trend.

Alongside the rainfall outlook, meteorological authorities have issued specific predictions regarding maritime activity in the region. Between September and November, four to six low-pressure systems are expected to develop over the Bay of Bengal. Furthermore, the department has warned that at least one of these anticipated low-pressure systems carries the potential to intensify further into a full-fledged tropical cyclone.

This forecast arrives in the wake of August weather statistics that highlighted warmer and drier conditions across Bangladesh. Official records show that nationwide rainfall in August was recorded at 5.7 percent below normal levels. Within that month, localized weather extremes included a daily maximum rainfall of 198 millimeters recorded in Hatiya, marking a significant downpour despite the overall deficit.

Temperature anomalies were also a notable feature of the preceding month, according to the meteorological findings. August temperatures across the country—encompassing maximum, minimum, and average readings—exceeded normal levels by 0.8, 0.5, and 0.9 degrees Celsius, respectively. Specific temperature extremes during August included a seasonal peak of 37 degrees Celsius recorded in Rajshahi on August 27, while the lowest temperature dropped to 22.6 degrees Celsius in Narayanganj on August 7.
