Bangladesh Bank has officially announced a brand-new program aimed at searching, identifying, and financing young entrepreneurs at the grassroots upazila level across the country. This comprehensive initiative has been designed to foster new business ventures and economic activity outside of major metropolitan areas by directly supporting promising young individuals who possess the ambition to start their own enterprises.

In this first phase of the rollout, young entrepreneurs residing within 64 upazilas across eight selected districts will be officially eligible to apply for this dedicated funding facility. According to the central bank's structured implementation plan, exactly 10 entrepreneurs will be chosen from each individual upazila, culminating in a grand total of 640 successfully selected young entrepreneurs for this initial wave.

Under the financial structure of the program, selected entrepreneurs will receive a financing package tailored to their actual business needs, up to a maximum limit of 20 lakh taka. Notably, this comprehensive financial package is split evenly, with one half provided as a standard bank loan and the remaining half awarded directly as a non-repayable grant to help jump-start the enterprise.

To ensure that the financing remains accessible and burdensome for beginners, the customer-level interest or profit rate for the loan portion has been capped at a maximum of four to seven percent. Furthermore, the central bank has stipulated that successful applicants will not be required to provide any collateral whatsoever in order to secure this vital funding.

Eligibility criteria for the program specify that applicants must be 28 years of age or younger by the final application deadline date. Additionally, the central bank has confirmed that prior business management experience is not mandatory, opening the doors wide for fresh graduates and aspiring business starters who are entering the commercial world for the very first time.

Looking toward broader long-term horizons, the central bank's overarching framework establishes a target to finance and support a total of 5,000 young entrepreneurs every single year. This continuous annual pipeline is expected to significantly bolster the entrepreneurial ecosystem across Bangladesh by consistently injecting capital and institutional support into rural and semi-urban economies.
