New data released by the United Kingdom Home Office shows a significant decrease in the number of asylum seekers staying in hotels across the country by the end of June 2026. According to the official statistics, exactly 16,021 asylum seekers were accommodated across 160 hotels at the conclusion of June 2026. This represents a substantial reduction compared to the previous year, when the figures stood at 32,401 asylum seekers accommodated in hotels during the exact same period.
To put this downward trend into a broader historical context, the number of asylum seekers residing in temporary hotel accommodations had previously reached a record peak of 56,018 individuals back in September 2023. The latest June 2026 data indicates a sharp contraction from those peak levels, reflecting ongoing shifts in the management and housing of asylum claimants within the United Kingdom.
Alongside the reduction in hotel usage, the newly published information highlights trends regarding arrivals. The data indicates that unauthorized entries into the United Kingdom via small boats crossing the English Channel have decreased by 23 percent over the course of a single year. For comparison, only 1,828 such licenses had been revoked during the previous year in 2025.
