Two Arms Traffickers Arrested Before Smuggling Weapons into Bangladesh
West Bengal police have arrested two suspected arms traffickers in Bongaon before they could smuggle weapons across the border into Bangladesh. Authorities recovered a pistol and two magazines from one of the suspects during a late-night raid.
Law enforcement authorities in West Bengal have successfully intervened in a cross-border weapons smuggling operation, arresting two individuals in Bongaon before the contraband could be transported into neighboring Bangladesh. The operation was executed by the local police force as part of their ongoing efforts to curb illicit arms trafficking along the border region.
The arrests took place late at night on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, following a strategic raid conducted by officers attached to the Bongaon Police Station. Acting on intelligence regarding illegal weapons movement, the police team targeted specific locations within their jurisdiction to apprehend the suspects involved in the trafficking ring.
During the operation, officers apprehended two men identified as Sahidul Mondal, also known as Sharif, and Anup Khan. According to the police records, Sahidul Mondal is a resident of the Bajitala area, while Anup Khan resides in the Phultala Colony area, both falling under the operational limits of the Bongaon Police Station.
Upon searching the premises belonging to Sahidul Mondal, law enforcement personnel recovered one pistol along with two magazines. The seized firearm and ammunition served as primary material evidence in the ongoing investigation into the network that allegedly intended to smuggle the weapons out of the country.
Following their apprehension, the two detained individuals were produced before the Bongaon Sub-Divisional Court on Thursday, 13 August 2026. The court subsequently issued orders placing the suspects on remand as further inquiries and legal proceedings continue regarding the thwarted arms smuggling attempt.
