Traditional Boat Race Held in Faridpur's Bhanga to Revive Rural Heritage
A traditional boat race featuring eight competing vessels took place on September 4, 2026, at the Jhaldanga bil in Faridpur's Bhanga upazila. The local youth-organized event was attended by lawmaker Shahidul Islam Khan Babul as the chief guest.

A traditional boat race competition was organized by the local youth society at the Jhaldanga bil, situated in Paschim Algi village under Algi union in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur district. The vibrant cultural event took place on the fourth day of September in the year 2026, drawing significant local interest and participation from the surrounding rural community.
A total of eight boats took part in the competitive racing event on the waters of the Jhaldanga bil. As a special incentive and token of appreciation for their participation, the organizers presented a free refrigerator to every single participating boat, including the ultimate winners of the competition.
Shahidul Islam Khan Babul, who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Faridpur-4 constituency, graced the well-attended sporting event as the chief guest. During the proceedings, he emphasized the deep cultural roots of the region's traditional musical and recreational practices.
Addressing the gathering, the lawmaker stated that traditional art forms such as jari, sari, bhatiayali songs, and boat racing are integral components of rural life. He strongly urged everyone present to actively work towards preserving and maintaining these time-honored traditions for future generations.
Speaking on the broader significance of the sporting meet, Shamim Hossain explained the core motivation behind the initiative. He noted that the gathering was deliberately arranged as part of an ongoing effort to revive the lost folk heritage of the area.

He observed that providing this type of pure, traditional entertainment serves as an effective measure to keep the younger generation away from the harmful grip of drug addiction.
