Sirajganj Farmer Expects Big Profits Cultivating Kania Watermelon

In an agricultural initiative in Sirajganj, farmer Hasibur Rahman has successfully cultivated the Kania variety of watermelon on twenty decimals of land located in Mugbelai village within the Kamarkhanda upazila. Adopting the innovative trellis method for this seasonal crop, Rahman has invested a total of approximately thirty thousand taka to bring the agricultural project to fruition, a notable increase from the twelve to fifteen thousand taka cost incurred in previous traditional farming endeavors.

The cultivation process, which spans a duration of sixty to sixty-five days from the initial planting of the seedlings, has shown strong potential for a bountiful harvest. Agricultural projections indicate that this twenty-decimal plot holds the strong possibility of producing fifty to fifty-five mon of watermelons, providing a substantial yield for the local farmer as the crop reaches maturity.

Market conditions for the produce are currently favorable, with the Kania variety of watermelon selling in the marketplace at a rate of sixty to seventy taka per kilogram. This robust pricing structure bolsters the financial outlook for the harvest, leading to strong expectations of earning a profit amounting to one lakh taka from the agricultural venture.

Detailing the agricultural advantages of the crop, farmer Hasibur Rahman stated that Kania variety watermelons experience comparatively lower attacks from diseases and pests. He further noted that cultivating the crop using the trellis method helps retain soil moisture while also reducing weed infestations, which ultimately decreases the labor and financial costs required for proper crop care and maintenance.

Local agricultural authorities have taken notice of the successful farming initiative in Mugbelai village. Commending the local farmer's efforts, Farid Hossain remarked that Hasibur Rahman's initiative is commendable and that he has achieved a good yield through the trellis method, adding that the Department of Agricultural Extension is providing him with necessary technical advice and support.
