Singapore Researchers Unveil Biological Data Center Prototype Using Neurons

Researchers in Singapore have successfully unveiled a groundbreaking prototype for a biological data center utilizing artificial human neurons. This innovative development marks a significant step forward in the intersection of biology and computing technology within the region.

The ambitious project was realized through a collaborative effort involving multiple prominent institutions. Specifically, the National University of Singapore's Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine joined forces with Dewan and Cortical Labs to design and implement this novel technological framework.

At the structural core of the newly unveiled biological data center prototype is a complex configuration consisting of twenty CL1 units. Within this specialized server rack setup, the system houses an impressive total of approximately one crore sixty lakh, or 16 million, human neurons.

The biological components for this advanced server infrastructure are supplied by Cortical Labs, which specializes in generating human neurons from human stem cells. According to the project details, these living cellular units are capable of remaining alive for a maximum duration of up to six months within the system.

This pioneering prototype demonstrates a unique approach to data processing architecture by integrating living biological tissue into hardware server designs. The collaborative research team continues to explore the boundaries of how human neural cells can be utilized within computational environments.
