Rivian Automotive has announced a major leadership change as Chief Financial Officer Claire McDonough prepares to step down from her position at the end of October 2026. The departure of the financial executive marks a notable transition for the electric vehicle manufacturer as it navigates its ongoing operational development and strategic roadmap.

Reflecting on her tenure and the milestones achieved during her time with the company, McDonough offered a detailed assessment of the journey. Together, we launched the R1T, R1S, and our commercial van, drove technology innovation and partnerships, built our go-to-market operations, and positioned the company for global scale and profitability with the launch of R2, she stated.

Following her departure from the electric vehicle maker, McDonough is set to begin the next chapter of her career. Confirmed professional updates reveal that Claire McDonough has been hired as CFO at GE Vernova, where she will bring her extensive corporate financial experience to the energy technology sector.

In the wake of this executive departure, leadership has already lined up immediate operational continuity for the finance department. Derek Mulvey will serve as interim CFO, stepping in to guide the financial division through the transition period following McDonough's departure at the conclusion of October 2026.

The leadership shuffle comes amid a broader corporate and financial context for Rivian, which previously raised an initial public offering amount of $12 billion. Additionally, the automaker maintains significant financial arrangements, including a stock price recorded at $16.80 alongside a Volkswagen investment up to $5.8 billion.
