Reddit Tests New Audio and Video Features for Posts and Comments
Reddit has initiated tests for new audio and video experiences across select communities. The company stated that original text-only posts and comments will remain accessible.

Social media platform Reddit has officially begun testing a new suite of audio and video experiences for posts and comments, according to information that emerged following previous company disclosures. The initial rollout of these multimedia features is currently focusing exclusively on a select group of English-language communities, allowing users within those designated spaces to interact with content in a completely different format than traditional text entries.
Despite the introduction of these new audio and video capabilities, the platform has confirmed that original text-only posts and comments will not be replaced by the new formats. Regular text contributions will continue to remain fully accessible to all users alongside the newly tested media features, ensuring that the core reading and writing experience of the website remains intact throughout the testing phase.
The underlying plans for these multimedia additions were previously discussed by Reddit CEO Steve Huffman earlier in the summer. During the company's second-quarter earnings call held in July, Huffman elaborated on the strategic vision behind incorporating spoken and visual elements into the traditionally text-based discussion platform.
Contextualizing the decision during the July earnings call, CEO Steve Huffman pointed to existing trends observed across the broader digital landscape. "There's an emerging content type elsewhere on the internet of basically podcasts where people read Reddit content, and so I think this version of like listened-to or spoken-Reddit can be really engaging as well," Huffman explained to stakeholders.
As Reddit continues to evaluate the reception of these audio and video tools within select English-language communities, the company has not yet announced a broader timeline for a wider public release. The ongoing tests mark a significant step in the platform's evolution as it adapts to changing consumption habits inspired by third-party creators who routinely transform text threads into spoken-word media.
