The Pakistan cricket team has implemented radical changes following a difficult Test series against England, dropping seven players from the squad and replacing two members of the backroom staff. The announcement follows consecutive defeats that left Pakistan facing an unassailable 2-0 series lead for England after suffering losses in the first two Test matches of the series at Headingley and Lord's.
As part of the sweeping overhaul, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Umar Gul were dropped from the coaching and backroom staff. In their place, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed Mike Hesson and Ashley Noffke to take over these crucial coaching roles as the team attempts to regroup for the remainder of the tour.
The on-field struggles have been stark, highlighted by the fact that Pakistan has completely failed to cross the 200-run mark in any of the four innings played in the current series so far. This persistent batting collapse prompted selectors to take drastic action for the final fixture.
Reflecting the urgent need for a turnaround, seven cricketers have been dropped from the team, while seven new cricketers have been called up to the squad for the final Test match at Edgbaston, England, scheduled for 01 September 2026. Among the newly selected contingent, five players are yet to make their official Test debut.
The revamped squad features a mix of experience and fresh talent, including players such as Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Amir Jamal, Muhammad Awais Zafar, and Khurram Shahzad. Other members named in the setup are Saim Ayub—who has already played 8 Test matches—alongside Abdullah Fazal, who has appeared in 2 Test matches.
The remainder of the touring party includes Arafat Minhas, Mohammad Imran Junior, Saad Beg, Mohammad Imran, Rajaullah, Saud Shakeel, and Abdullah Shafique. The Pakistan cricket team will look to salvage pride and reverse their fortunes under their newly configured leadership team when they take the field at Edgbaston.
