Nicholas Maduro Shares First Photos From US Detention in New York

Nicholas Maduro, who is currently being held in United States custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, has shared his first photographs from detention. The images and associated updates emerged between August 30 and August 31, 2026, drawing significant international attention to his ongoing incarceration following his capture earlier this year.

On August 30, Maduro shared two photographs on his official X handle. In the newly released images, the detained leader is seen wearing a grey tracksuit while inside the US detention facility. The publication of these photos marks the very first visual update from his place of confinement in New York.

Alongside his detention conditions, official records detail specific communication allowances and upcoming legal proceedings. Maduro is permitted to speak on the phone for approximately 300 minutes each month, with each individual phone call restricted to a maximum duration of 15 minutes. Meanwhile, the legal case against him and his wife, Cilia Flores, is moving forward in the American judicial system.

Both Maduro and Cilia Flores face serious criminal charges brought by US authorities, specifically involving drug trafficking and narco-terrorism. Following these grave indictments, court schedules indicate that their official trial is scheduled to begin next year on June 1.

Addressing supporters and the public amidst these developments, Maduro conveyed a message through a confirmed statement. He stated, "We remain strong. Our hearts are full of your love. We will remain strong, calm, and confident. God is with us. Venezuela will rise again."
