Neo Geo AES+ Console Launch Delayed to September 2027 Due to Memory Shortage
The release of the upcoming Neo Geo Advanced Entertainment System+ (AES+) has been pushed back to late 2027. Manufacturer Plaion Replai cited global supply constraints driven by AI infrastructure investments as the cause.
The highly anticipated launch of the Neo Geo Advanced Entertainment System+ (AES+) console has been officially delayed, with the release now scheduled for September 16, 2027. According to the updated release schedule provided by the manufacturer, the hardware was originally supposed to start shipping to eager consumers in November before the schedule was altered.
Plaion Replai attributed the significant postponement of the hardware rollout directly to a combination of increased consumer demand and a broader global shortage of memory components. Industry conditions have shifted dramatically as global manufacturing resources face mounting pressures across multiple technology sectors.
Addressing the root cause of the supply chain disruption, Plaion Replai released a statement explaining the market realities. "Unprecedented worldwide demand for memory chips, driven by investment in AI infrastructure, has created well documented industry-wide supply constraints," the organization stated, highlighting the intense competition for vital electronic components.
Rather than moving forward with a limited rollout under severe component deficits, the manufacturer opted to prioritize product availability for its consumer base. Elaborating on this strategic decision, Plaion Replai noted, "Rather than proceed with the previously planned November launch with severely constrained worldwide availability, Plaion Replai has chosen to take additional time to secure the component supply that is now needed to meet the demand of pre-order customers and a substantially larger worldwide release."
Despite the nearly two-year setback in the deployment timeline, the pricing structure for the hardware packages remains completely unchanged for buyers. The standard edition of the console retains its price tag of $250, while the special limited-edition 35th anniversary edition bundle continues to be priced at $350.
Furthermore, consumers who have already secured their hardware units can rest assured regarding their order status. Plaion Replai confirmed that all previous pre-orders placed prior to the announcement are not impacted by the delay.
