Nazrul Dance Festival Concludes as Filmmaking Masterclasses Begin

The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka has wrapped up its two-day Nazrul Dance Festival alongside the launch of a masterclass series for contemporary filmmakers. Supported by the Ministry of Culture, the opening session drew 46 participants from universities and the industry.

The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka officially concluded its vibrant two-day 'Nazrul Dance Festival 2026' yesterday, Sunday, marking the end of a major cultural celebration. The event brought together numerous prominent organizations and cultural groups from across the country to celebrate the artistic legacy of Kazi Nazrul Islam through movement and performance.

Among the many cultural entities associated with the broader artistic landscape at the academy are the Odissi and Tagore Dance Movement Centre of Chattogram, Nrityashoili, Kathak Dance Community, Riporip Shilpi Gosthi-Rangamati, Dance Troupe Bohor, and Kathyakia-The Centre of Arts. Additional participating groups included Amra Kojan Shilpi Gosthi-Bogra, Sukanya Nrittangan, Nrittagram-Mymensingh, Chhandasik, Aliphia Dance Atelier, Srishti Cultural Centre, Dance Troupe Akriti, Jhingor Dance Academy-Rangpur, Nandanik Dance Organization, and Aradhana Dance Troupe.

Coinciding with the conclusion of the dance festival, the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy also launched a specialized masterclass program tailored for contemporary filmmakers. This comprehensive educational initiative is designed to foster emerging talent and provide deep insights into the craft of modern cinema production within the country.

The film-focused masterclass series commenced with its very first session, which featured in-depth discussions led by prominent filmmaker Mohammad Tauqir Islam. During this opening segment, he engaged directly with the attendees, sharing professional perspectives and technical knowledge with the aspiring creators in attendance.

The training program is being held under the official patronage of the Ministry of Culture. A total of 46 trainees are participating in the initiative, comprising dedicated film department students from various universities across the nation alongside a select group of young and promising contemporary filmmakers.

Earlier, the formal closing ceremony of the Nazrul Dance Festival featured notable speeches from key figures within the institution. Addresses were delivered by the Director General of the academy, Rezauddin Stalin, as well as the Director of the Music, Dance, and Recitation Department, Mehzabeen Rahman, who spoke to the assembled participants and guests.
