Argentine football star Messi has taken a significant step toward expanding his football club ownership portfolio by reaching a preliminary agreement to purchase the Spanish second-division club Eldense. Founded back in 1921, Eldense boasts a long history in Spanish football. The club achieved a notable milestone in 2023 by returning to the second division for the first time since 1964. However, the team has faced a challenging start in the current campaign, having played four matches so far this season without securing a single victory.

At present, ownership of Eldense rests with the Colombian investment firm Grupo TH. The club plays its home matches at the Estadio Nuevo Pepico Amat, a venue that features a total spectator seating capacity of 5,776 people. This potential acquisition follows another recent investment by the 39-year-old player, who earlier this year completed the purchase of Cornellà, a club playing in the fifth division of Spanish football.
