Major change in income rules from X, basic content will be prioritized
A major change is coming to X's content revenue system. The new Original Content Rewards program will have new conditions, including Premium, 500 verified followers, and 5 lakh views in 90 days.

Social media X (formerly Twitter) is bringing significant changes to the way content creators earn money. The platform has decided to shut down the current Creator Earnings system and launch a new ‘Original Content Rewards’ program.
Before the new rules come into effect, creators can earn money under the current system until 7 September 2026. After that, from 8 September, they will have the opportunity to apply for the new program.
What conditions will the new system have
To join the new rewards program, one must be a Premium user of X. Additionally, the user's account must have at least 500 verified followers.
Moreover, there is also a condition to earn at least 500,000 views from verified users in the last 90 days. In other words, not only the number of followers will matter, but also the actual viewers and engagement of the content will be given importance.
What kind of content will earn money?
In the new program, X will give the most importance to original and unique content. Creators' self-made videos, photos, analytical posts, comments, memes, and graphics—such content can come under the purview of earnings.
On the other hand, slightly modifying someone else's post and publishing it, downloading videos or photos from another account and re-uploading them, or copying content will not be considered original. As a result, content creators will have to focus more on their own creativity and novelty.
Why this change?
X said that over time, some incentives in the old earnings system were not working as expected. The main goal of the new method is to encourage the creation of truly new and creative content on the platform.
X's Alejandra Zuco also advised creators not to focus only on earnings, but to pay attention to creating new content on the platform.
X had also changed the earnings system earlier
In April this year, X also made changes to their content earnings system. At that time, mainly the earnings of accounts that relied on collecting and publishing others' content and excessively attention-grabbing content were reduced.
Through the new Original Content Rewards program, the platform is now going to give even more importance to original content. X has also stated that in the future, they may make further changes to the rules considering user feedback and the effectiveness of the program.
