Legendary Actress Shabnam Marks Birthday, Bans Body From FDC

Legendary actress Shabnam celebrated her birthday on 17 August 2026 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, as she officially stepped into the 81st year of her life. Born in 1946, the celebrated screen icon has left an indelible mark on the film industry throughout her illustrious career, alongside her late husband, composer and music director Robin Ghosh.

Marking the occasion of her birthday, the renowned actress opened up about her current state of mind and her final wishes regarding her mortal remains. Reflecting on her time away from the country and her return, Shabnam stated that she had been outside the country for a long time. Upon returning, she observed many things but chose to remain silent, noting that she does not wish to speak about what she has seen and experienced.

Addressing the cultural hub of the film industry, Shabnam issued a strict directive to her family concerning her passing. She revealed a conversation with her son, stating that one day people would hear of her death, and at that moment, individuals from the FDC would become restless to take her body there. However, she emphasized that she has clearly instructed her son that her remains must not go to the FDC under any circumstances.

Detailing the precedent set by her late husband, the actress recalled that Robin Ghosh had also stated previously that his body would not be taken there, and indeed, his remains were never taken to the FDC. When asked about the reasons behind this firm decision, Shabnam maintained that while there are certainly reasons, she chooses not to disclose them publicly. She sarcastically remarked on the potential reception she might receive after death, questioning how much respect she is allegedly getting from the FDC and noting that people would simply place flower garlands on her body once she passes away.

Refusing to provide an opportunity for public displays of grief, the legendary actress declared that she will not give anyone the chance to shed hypocritical tears over her dead body at the FDC. Instead, she expressed a desire for peace and solitude in her final chapters, stating that she is content to remain quietly in her own home just as she is right now.
