Lawyers Visit Seoul to Recover 16 Crore Taka for Bangladeshi Students
Legal representatives have travelled to Seoul to recover approximately 16 crore Taka in tuition fees for 194 Bangladeshi students. The students faced visa rejections after Sinseong University failed to submit necessary documents on time.
A legal team has travelled to Seoul, South Korea, to recover approximately 16 crore Taka—specifically totaling 15 crore 88 lakh 61 thousand Taka—on behalf of 194 Bangladeshi students and other international applicants. The group of affected individuals comprises a total of 225 students who had applied for admission into Master's programs at Sinseong University through the agency U Care Education Consultancy.
The financial crisis arose after Sinseong University authorities failed to submit the required paperwork in a timely manner, which subsequently resulted in the rejection of the students' visa applications by immigration authorities. In addition to the 194 Bangladeshi nationals, the affected student body also includes 28 citizens from Nepal and three citizens from Pakistan, all of whom paid tuition fees for the programs.
According to the official offer letters issued by the institution, if a student failed to obtain a visa, the university was contractually obligated to refund the deposited tuition fees within a period of 90 days. However, despite the clear terms outlined in the documentation, the university withheld the funds and has since initiated legal proceedings to declare itself bankrupt.
In response to the institution's failure to return the money, legal representatives Advocate Saiful Islam and Barrister Tania Hamid Jui took formal action on May 20 by delivering a strict legal notice directly to the registrar of Sinseong University. This notification demanded the immediate settlement of the pending tuition fees owed to the international applicants who never received their visas.
Building upon the initial legal notice sent to the university administration, the legal team is now actively preparing to submit formal compensation claims to the appropriate court in South Korea. According to the stated schedule and legal strategy outlined by the representatives, these official claims and related documents are scheduled to be filed before the court by the upcoming 28th of August.
