Jet fuel prices rise, new rates effective from midnight

The price of aviation fuel used in aircraft in the country has been increased again. The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has set the new prices for the month of August. The announced new rates will come into effect from midnight on Sunday (9 August).

According to BERC's new pricing, the price of jet fuel per liter for domestic routes has been set at Tk 159.52. The previous price was Tk 130.99. This means the price has increased by Tk 28.53 per liter.

Prices also rise for international flights

Not only for domestic routes, but the price of jet fuel used for international flights has also been increased.

According to the new decision, the price of jet fuel per liter for international routes has been set at 1.0358 US dollars. Previously, this price was 0.8556 dollars.

This means the price per liter on international routes has increased by 0.1802 dollars.

Multiple changes in a few months

There have been multiple changes in the price of jet fuel in 2026. After a significant price hike at the beginning of the year, the price was reduced several times in the following months.

In July, the jet fuel price for domestic routes was reduced to Tk 130.99. In June, the rate was Tk 150.21. In May, the price was also reduced to Tk 205.45.

Now, the decision has been made to increase the price again for August.

Aviation operating costs may rise

Fuel is a significant portion of the operating costs for airlines. Consequently, an increase in jet fuel prices could put direct pressure on the expenses of airlines.

This has the potential to impact airfares on both domestic and international routes in the future. However, the decision to increase fares will also depend on the decisions of the respective airlines and other operating costs.

It remains to be seen how much this affects the operating costs of airlines and whether any changes occur in passenger fares after the new prices come into effect.
