Jürgen Klopp announces first Germany squad with two separate teams

Jürgen Klopp has officially announced his very first squad selection since taking charge as the coach of the Germany national football team, introducing an unprecedented roster strategy for upcoming international fixtures. In preparation for a demanding schedule, Klopp has revealed two completely different squads to cover a total of four matches in the UEFA Nations League competition, spanning locations such as Frankfurt and Amsterdam.

Addressing the unconventional selection, Klopp firmly stated that the split does not indicate a hierarchy between the chosen groups. "We have not created an A or B team," Klopp said. Explaining the logistical reasoning behind the massive selection, he added, "The main reason is that we have to play four matches in two weeks, which is very unusual for the national team."

In total, 45 players have been selected and divided across the two separate squads to manage the heavy workload. Among the notable player movements, goalkeeper Finn Dahmen has been included in both squads, while fellow goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has made his return to the national setup after a lengthy absence of 15 months.

The broader roster configurations also highlight several notable omissions and inclusions. The overall selection features 16 players from the World Cup squad, alongside 11 individuals who have received their very first call-ups to the national team. However, prominent players Leroy Sané and Deniz Undav have not been included in either of the announced squads.

Germany is scheduled to play its first fixture of this demanding stretch on September 24, 2022, facing opponents in Amsterdam. The subsequent matches under this four-match UEFA Nations League schedule are slated for September 27, October 1, and October 4, as Klopp prepares his extended pool of players for the international tests ahead.
