India has officially established itself as the world's third-largest aviation market, trailing only behind China and the United States. This monumental ascension in the global aviation sector reflects a period of unprecedented expansion and modernization within the country's transportation infrastructure.

To accommodate the surge in air travel, massive investments have been poured into physical infrastructure across the nation. Specifically, more than 70 airports have been built over the past decade throughout India, drastically improving regional connectivity and accommodating the rapidly expanding volume of travelers.

The growth in infrastructure is directly mirrored by staggering passenger numbers. Today, India counts over 400 million air passengers annually, highlighting how air travel has transformed from a luxury into an increasingly accessible mode of transportation for millions of citizens across the country.

Commercial fleet compositions reflect this robust market activity, with European manufacturer Airbus playing a dominant role. Airbus aircraft currently make up over 70% of India's domestic fleet, underscoring the deep reliance on these specific commercial jets by domestic carriers operating within the bustling region.

Looking ahead, the exponential growth trajectory brings unique operational challenges, particularly regarding workforce development. According to current projections, India will need to train about 35,000 pilots by 2035 to adequately staff the expanding fleets and maintain the momentum of the world's third-largest aviation market.
