Heavy rainfall lashed Delhi on Friday, triggering severe waterlogging at the gates of the Indira Gandhi International Airport and causing significant difficulties for travelers arriving at the major aviation hub. According to verified reports, the downpour left key areas around the facility inundated, forcing arriving passengers to navigate through deep pools of water while pushing their luggage trolleys just to gain entry into the terminal buildings.

The extreme weather conditions were not limited to the aviation hub alone, as various other parts of the national capital also reported widespread waterlogging following the continuous downpour. Meteorological data provided by the India Meteorological Department details the intensity of the precipitation across the region, noting that the Palam weather station recorded 3.4 millimeters of rainfall between 11:30 am and 2:30 pm. Additionally, the Najafgarh area recorded 0.5 millimeters of precipitation between 8:30 am and 11:30 am.

The sudden accumulation of water created chaotic scenes outside the arrival gates, catching many travelers completely off guard. Mansi, one of the affected passengers interviewed at the scene, expressed her shock over the severity of the flooding. She stated that she had never witnessed anything like it before, noting the massive volume of water and explaining that she had been standing there for nearly half an hour waiting for the water level to drop so she could finally make her way toward the arrival gate.

Another passenger, Himanshi, echoed similar frustrations regarding the disruptive conditions outside the terminal. She pointed out the sheer volume of accumulated water and mentioned that she had also been stranded for approximately half an hour due to the flooded pathway. The severe weather disruption coincided with local festive celebrations, as another traveler pointed out that the heavy downpour was occurring on the auspicious day of Janmashtami while prayer festivities were actively underway.

Reflecting on the recurring nature of the infrastructure strain, the same traveler noted that a similar situation had occurred roughly two years prior, and expressed dismay at witnessing it happen again this year. They remarked that the rainfall this season has been noticeably heavier than usual, compounding the difficulties faced by the public as municipal authorities and airport officials contend with the widespread urban flooding across multiple sectors of Delhi.
