Court records indicate that Lodge, along with six other co-conspirators who had no formal affiliation with Harvard University, faced formal criminal charges in 2025. Notably, all of these co-conspirators, including Lodge's wife whose case was handled separately, have formally admitted their guilt in the matter.
In related legal proceedings stemming from the wider network of the scandal, a judge presiding in the Pennsylvania District Court handed down a prison sentence of one year and one day against Lodge's wife for her involvement. The criminal fallout prompted grieving families to take decisive legal action against the prestigious university.
Following the revelations, affected families filed multiple civil lawsuits against Harvard University in 2023, seeking accountability and justice for the desecration of their loved ones' remains. The newly proposed 53 million dollar settlement aims to resolve these pending lawsuits brought forward by the aggrieved families in Boston.
As part of the institutional response and measures to honor those affected, Harvard Medical School has committed to implementing a new initiative. Beginning in the 2027-28 academic year, the medical school will establish an annual financial aid scholarship program dedicated to honoring the memory and expressing gratitude to anatomical donors for medical students.
