Green Chilli Prices Drop Sharply in Rajshahi Amid Stable Market

Essential commodity prices have significantly decreased and stabilized across various markets, including Shaheb Bazar in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, according to reports published by Jago News on August 15, 2026. Following a difficult period marked by severe weather conditions across the country, local consumers are now experiencing considerable relief as the cost of key kitchen staples moves well within their purchasing power. Verified market data from the region highlights a marked downward trend in the prices of green chillies, various vegetables, poultry, and fish.

The most dramatic price reduction has been observed in green chillies, which are now selling at 60 taka per kilogram. This represents a massive drop compared to last week, when the same quantity of green chillies commanded an exorbitant price of 240 to 250 taka per kilogram. Market participants and local shoppers note that this sharp decline has brought much-needed financial relief to households that struggled with the previous steep rates caused by heavy rainfall and floods over the past month throughout Bangladesh.

Local consumers have expressed satisfaction with the current market conditions. A shopper named Shafiqul Islam remarked that vegetable prices this week remain consistent with the previous week, noting that the costs are well within their purchasing capacity and expressing hope that this trend will continue. Another consumer, Masum, explained that vegetable prices are steadily decreasing in Rajshahi because the region cultivates a substantial amount of produce. He recalled that continuous rain and flooding over the past month had previously driven up prices nationwide, but he emphasized that current rates are largely affordable and beneficial for ordinary people.

Traders and vendors have confirmed that market supplies remain robust. A merchant named Jasim Uddin stated that there is no shortage of supply in Rajshahi, with adequate quantities arriving from various upazilas and local areas. Because of this increased supply, almost all types of vegetables are now available within the 30 to 40 taka range, making general buyers very happy. Another trader, Kalam, reiterated that vegetable prices have remained stable compared to last week, pointing out that nearly all varieties are available within 40 taka and that green chilli prices have dropped substantially.

Poultry and meat prices have also held steady in the region. A poultry seller named Halim noted that chickens are selling at the exact same prices as the previous week, with broiler chickens continuing to trade at 170 to 180 taka per kilogram. A wide variety of other food items are currently available in the markets, including potatoes at 20 to 25 taka per kilogram, onions at 45 to 50 taka per kilogram, and tomatoes at 180 to 200 taka per kilogram, alongside numerous fish and egg categories that cater to local demand.
