A wave of job losses has swept across the global technology sector, impacting major corporations including Oracle, Uber, PayPal, Apple, and Zomato. In the first ten days of September 2026 alone, more than 6,000 employees were laid off as part of a widespread industry trend involving organizational restructuring and the adoption of new artificial intelligence technologies.

Among the affected companies, database giant Oracle has taken immediate steps by sending abrupt email notifications to workers. The digital notices informed impacted staff with the stark message that they were facing difficult news regarding their positions and that today would be their final working day at the company.

Financial filings and corporate data reveal the scale of the downsizing at Oracle. During the 2026 financial year, the company's total workforce decreased significantly by 21,000 employees, representing a 13 percent reduction in overall staff numbers compared to the previous period.

Further detailed figures highlight the shrinking headcount within the organization. By the end of May, the multi-national technology corporation's global workforce stood at approximately 141,000 employees, marking a substantial drop from the roughly 162,000 workers employed by the company just one year prior.

To facilitate these extensive reductions, Oracle reported substantial financial outlays. The enterprise spent approximately 1.84 billion dollars specifically designated to cover the costs associated with organizational restructuring and employee separation packages during this period.

The broader wave of reductions continues to affect workers across the global technology landscape. Alongside Oracle, companies such as Uber, PayPal, Apple, and Zomato have collectively contributed to the mounting total of over 6,000 jobs eliminated during the early days of September 2026.
