Global Oil Prices Rise Amid Mutual Military Strikes Between US and Iran

Global oil prices experienced an increase of about 1 percent on Wednesday morning following a series of mutual airstrikes between Iran and the United States in the Middle East. The upward movement in commodity markets follows heightened military tensions and direct engagements between the two nations in the strategically vital region.

Market data shows that Brent crude oil prices rose by 87 cents, or 0.92 percent, to reach 95.52 dollars per barrel. Concurrently, the price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil increased by 80 cents, or 0.89 percent, bringing it to 91.2 dollars per barrel. These increases follow significant price volatility on the previous day, Tuesday, when the prices of both major crude oil benchmarks surged by more than 4 dollars.

The financial impact on energy markets is further compounded by supply data reported by the American Petroleum Institute. According to the figures, the United States' domestic crude oil inventories decreased by 2.6 million barrels, while distillate fuel inventories also experienced a decline of 265,000 barrels.

The military escalations involve direct actions confirmed by the United States Central Command. The command stated via a post on the social media platform X that the recent military strikes were conducted in response to attempts by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to attack commercial ships and US troops operating in the Strait of Hormuz.

The regional fallout from the confrontation has directly impacted neighboring countries' security. The Jordanian military officially reported that 13 ballistic missiles entered its national airspace during the course of the developments. Of those incoming projectiles, its air defense system successfully intercepted 10 of the missiles.
