New research from Glassdoor and Stanford University highlights a stark generational divide regarding artificial intelligence in the workplace. While older employees express positive views, younger workers face dwindling entry-level job opportunities due to AI integration.

Recent research published by Glassdoor has revealed a significant generational divide in workplace attitudes toward artificial intelligence, highlighting how older and younger employees view the technological shift differently. According to the findings, approximately half of Generation X workers hold positive opinions regarding the implementation and use of artificial intelligence within their organizations. This indicates a relatively high level of acceptance and optimism among workers aged between 40 and 60 years old concerning automation and AI tools in their professional environments.

In stark contrast to their older colleagues, younger workers exhibit considerable apprehension about the rise of artificial intelligence. Data indicates that approximately one-third of Generation Z workers do not view artificial intelligence in a positive light, reflecting deep-seated concerns about job security and the changing nature of modern employment. This generational contrast demonstrates that workers aged 40 to 60 are comparatively more positive about artificial intelligence, whereas younger employees harbor much greater anxiety regarding its long-term implications for their careers.

Academic research from Stanford University further underscores these concerns, showing that the integration of artificial intelligence is actively reducing employment opportunities for young people, particularly by diminishing the availability of entry-level positions. Further compounding this issue, data highlights a growing employment gap for young professionals: workers aged 22 to 25 face a situation where their employment opportunities in occupations most vulnerable to artificial intelligence displacement are significantly lower. Specifically, their likelihood of gaining employment in high-risk AI roles is 19 percent lower compared to professions experiencing a lesser impact from artificial intelligence. Notably, this widening disparity marks an increase from the previous year, when the employment gap between these types of professions stood at 13 percent.

Labor market data provided by Indeed supports these academic and research findings, illustrating a clear divergence in hiring trends based on seniority levels. According to Indeed's metrics, job postings for senior-level positions experienced a notable increase, rising by 14.7 percent over the one-year period leading up to May 2026. This growth at the top end of the corporate ladder points to continued demand for experienced professionals who can navigate complex organizational structures and advanced technologies.

Conversely, opportunities for individuals just entering the workforce have contracted during the exact same timeframe. Indeed reported that job listings for entry-level positions decreased by 6.3 percent over the year leading up to May 2026, aligning directly with Stanford University's conclusions regarding the decline in junior roles. This contraction in entry-level openings, combined with findings from Bloomberg and broader market shifts, paints a challenging picture for new graduates and young job seekers attempting to establish themselves in an economy increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.
