FSSAI Issues Notices to New Delhi Five-Star Hotels Ahead of BRICS Summit
India's food safety regulator has issued official notices to two prominent five-star hotels in New Delhi following inspections that uncovered severe hygiene violations. The enforcement action comes ahead of the upcoming BRICS Business Forum, where both properties are listed as potential accommodation sites.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued official notices to two luxury five-star hotels located in the Aerocity area of New Delhi due to serious food safety violations discovered during recent regulatory inspections. The enforcement actions were made public on August 26, 2026, highlighting significant concerns regarding kitchen hygiene and food handling practices at establishments designated to host high-profile international visitors.
During the comprehensive inspection of the Andaz Delhi hotel, operated by Aria Hotels & Consultancy Services, food safety authorities uncovered and seized a substantial quantity of compromised confectionery. Inspectors recovered exactly 87 kilograms of expired sweets directly from the pastry section of the premises. According to the verified findings of the regulatory body, this entire quantity of 87 kg of expired sweets was immediately confiscated and destroyed on the spot to prevent any potential health hazards.
Meanwhile, a separate inspection at the nearby JW Marriott hotel, managed by Juniper Hotels, revealed an alarming array of severe sanitary and labeling deficiencies. The regulatory assessment documented active cockroach and fruit fly infestations within the food preparation areas, alongside generally unhygienic conditions throughout the hospitality facilities. Furthermore, inspectors discovered that various packaged goods stored and utilized at the property were missing essential manufacturer addresses, violating standard consumer safety and transparency regulations.
The timing of these regulatory interventions is particularly critical for the capital's hospitality sector, as both the Andaz Delhi and the JW Marriott are officially listed as potential venues or accommodation sites for delegates and guests attending the upcoming BRICS Business Forum.
