Throughout these diverse locations, the couple maintained a strict financial discipline, managing to spend an average of less than 25 US dollars per day on their journeys.
Reflecting on the realities behind their captivating online presence, Lee noted that people often only see the final travel photographs without realizing the immense dedication required. "People look at our travel pictures, but they do not see the 11 years of struggle behind the pictures," Lee explained, highlighting the long path of endurance that accompanied their global adventures.
Mandy reflected on their humble beginnings and foundational outlook on life, emphasizing a preference for memories over goods. "We were never rich. From childhood, we learned that it is possible to live beautifully even with a little money. Therefore, we saved money not to buy things, but to gain experiences," Mandy stated, outlining the philosophy that guided their lifestyle choices.
Addressing common misconceptions about economical voyaging, Lee clarified that financial constraints do not necessitate discomfort or hardship. "Budget travel does not mean living with hardship. In 2023, a significant turning point occurred when Mandy was diagnosed with breast cancer, prompting the couple to return to Australia for necessary medical treatment. Despite this severe health challenge and the realization of life's fragility, Mandy's resolve to appreciate the world remains steadfast as they navigate this chapter of recovery.
