FBCCI Holds Meeting on Draft Amendment of Companies Act 1994
Commerce and Industry Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir addressed a views-exchange meeting on the draft amendment of the Companies Act 1994 at the FBCCI office in Motijheel, Dhaka. Business leaders were advised to take necessary time to formulate comprehensive proposals for a better business environment.
A views-exchange meeting regarding the draft amendment of the Companies Act-1994 was held at the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) office located in Motijheel, Dhaka, on September 7, 2026. The important gathering brought together key stakeholders from the country's prominent trade bodies, industrial associations, and corporate sectors to deliberate on the ongoing legislative updates concerning business regulations in Bangladesh.
The meeting was presided over by FBCCI Administrator Md. Fazlul Hoque, who oversaw the proceedings as industry leaders convened to discuss the nuances of the proposed legislative changes. During the session, Barrister Nihad Kabir presented the keynote paper, outlining the core components and structural changes proposed within the draft amendment of the Companies Act, which was originally enacted in 1994.
Addressing the business community during the deliberations, Commerce and Industry Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir emphasized the importance of thorough review and stakeholder consultation. He stated that if stakeholders require 30 days to review the provisions, they should take 30 days, or 60 days if 60 days are needed. However, he reminded participants that additional agendas remain to be addressed, noting that the company law represents merely a single element among hundreds of other elements.
Urging participants to finalize their positions thoughtfully, the minister remarked, "This company law is just one element of several hundred elements. So for this reason, if you take 30 days time, take it, but make up your mind, come up with good suggestions." He further advised the attendees to benchmark their proposals against international practices, suggesting they compare how similar amendments function in other countries before submitting their final recommendations.
Concluding his remarks, the Commerce and Industry Minister assured the business leaders that the government will work towards formulating a favorable outcome based on their expert consultations. He noted that the ultimate objective of incorporating these detailed suggestions is to establish a legal framework that actively supports and fosters a healthy, conducive business environment across the nation.
The high-profile event saw participation from representatives of various leading organizations and corporate entities, including the FBCCI, MCCI, BGMEA, BKMEA, DCCI, BTMA, Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI), Barvida, Transcom, and Jago News, alongside notable business figures such as Mahmud Hasan Khan, Mohammad Hatem, Taskeen Ahmed, Shawkat Aziz Russell, Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury (Parvez), Syed Nasim Manzur, Abdul Haque, and Simin Rahman.
