Farmer Kamal Sheikh has achieved remarkable success cultivating a super hot variety of chilli in Kaliganj upazila. Supported by the local agriculture office, he turned a tiny plot into a profitable venture.
In Kaliganj upazila, a local farmer named Kamal Sheikh has achieved significant agricultural success by cultivating a specialized variety of chilli known as 'super hot'. This milestone marks a major shift in his traditional farming practices and highlights the potential benefits of adopting modern agricultural techniques for small-scale landowners in the region.
Previously, Kamal Sheikh dedicated a much larger expanse of land, specifically ten acres, solely to the cultivation of general field crops. However, his farming strategy underwent a dramatic change when he decided to utilize a mere ten decimal plot of land specifically for this new and advanced variety of chilli.
The successful transition and subsequent harvest were made possible through the direct intervention and backing of the local agricultural authorities. Specifically, the agriculture office, operating under the broader umbrella of the Department of Agricultural Extension, provided essential guidance and resources to ensure the farmer could manage the crop effectively.
As part of this institutional support, Kamal Sheikh received specialized seeds for the super hot chilli variety. This distribution was carried out under the framework of a targeted government initiative known as the Expansion of Advanced Varieties and Technologies of Spices Project.
Expressing his satisfaction with the outcome, the farmer shared his positive experience regarding the cultivation process and the resulting economic returns. "Agricultural office's advice and cooperation made me very happy to cultivate this new variety of chilli," Kamal Sheikh stated. He further noted that achieving a strong harvest on a small plot of land, combined with favorable market prices, proved that modern methods can turn limited acreage into a significant source of additional income.
Looking ahead, the successful grower has already formulated plans to expand his agricultural operations for the upcoming season. Encouraged by the profitability and high yield of the current harvest, Kamal Sheikh intends to cultivate the super hot chilli on a much larger area of land next year.
