The capital share market of Bangladesh witnessed a major downward slide on Monday, continuing a series of continuous price drops observed over the past few days. Market activity at the country's primary trading hub reflected widespread pessimism among participants as major indices suffered steep losses.

According to official trading data from the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the benchmark DSEX index plunged by 79 points, translating to a reduction of nearly one and a half percent. This substantial loss underscores the mounting pressure faced by equities listed on the premier bourse during the session.

Market breadth remained overwhelmingly negative throughout the day's trading. Out of the 387 total companies, mutual funds, and collective investment units traded on the floor, an alarming 355 entities—accounting for approximately 92 percent of the total—experienced declines in their share and unit prices.

In stark contrast to the widespread bearish trend, only 14 companies managed to record price increases during the session. Meanwhile, the share prices of 18 companies remained entirely unchanged from their previous closing values, offering little cushion against the broader market retreat.

Financial turnover at the Dhaka bourse was recorded at 602 crore taka. This figure represents a notable decrease compared to the previous trading session, dropping by 109 crore taka, or roughly 15 percent, indicating a contraction in overall market liquidity and investor participation.

Analysis of market participation revealed that individual retail investors accounted for approximately 88 percent of the day's total transactions, while institutional investors comprised 8 percent of the activity. Additionally, the sharp price corrections in just 10 specific companies alone pulled down the DSEX index by 16 points, according to market reviews by LankaBangla Securities.
