Dhaka Premier League Stagnant Amid Sky-High Player Wage Demands
The Dhaka Premier League transfer market has ground to a halt as players demand exorbitant salaries, with half a dozen cricketers seeking one crore taka. Meanwhile, the CCDM has announced that the 2027 Premier League will take place in February.
The transfer market for the Dhaka Premier League in Dhaka, Bangladesh, is currently facing severe stagnation due to exceptionally high wage demands from players on 16 September 2026. Club organizers and officials across the domestic cricket circuit are grappling with inflated financial expectations that have disrupted the usual flow of player signings and team building for the upcoming competitive season.
Financial demands have reached unprecedented levels within the domestic circuit, creating a significant barrier for clubs such as Abahani, Mohammedan, Prime Bank, Legends of Rupganj, City Club, and Brothers Union. Reports indicate that half a dozen prominent cricketers are demanding a staggering one crore taka in remuneration. Additionally, a dozen more players are setting their asking prices between 60 lakh and 75 lakh taka, straining club budgets.
Despite the high demands at the top tier, standard financial avenues remain active for other squad members. Mid-level cricketers are securing annual income pathways ranging from 20 lakh to 30 lakh taka, providing a more stable baseline for the broader population of domestic players participating in the country's premier club-level cricket ecosystem.
Amidst the ongoing discussions regarding player valuations and team formations, the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) has formally announced the schedule for the upcoming domestic calendar. According to the official directive, the premier league for 2027 is officially scheduled to take place in the month of February.
Adding to the busy domestic cricket schedule overseen by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), another major tournament is rapidly approaching. The National League Twenty20 competition is officially scheduled to commence on October 4, bringing together eight divisional teams from across the country to compete in the shorter format of the game.
