Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway Project Opens Two New Service Bridges

Two new service bridges totaling 3.31 kilometers in length have been opened for vehicular traffic under the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway project. The infrastructure initiative is being implemented through joint funding from the governments of Bangladesh and China.

Two new service bridges with a combined length of 3.31 kilometers have officially been opened for vehicular traffic under the framework of the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway project. The opening ceremony took place in Dhour, Ashulia, Dhaka, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing infrastructure development efforts in the region.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Islam inaugurated the two newly constructed bridges on Wednesday morning. During the opening event, it was officially confirmed that both bridges have been kept completely toll-free for all vehicles utilizing the new infrastructure routes.

The overarching Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway project is being implemented through a joint funding arrangement between the governments of Bangladesh and China. The construction and engineering work for the major development initiative is being handled by the China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation.

Financial and physical metrics for the undertaking outline the current scale of the expressway project. The total estimated cost for the project stands at 27,045 crore 68 lakh taka. As of July 2026, the physical progress of the initiative has reached 66 percent, while the financial progress has been recorded at 56.02 percent.

Project projections indicate substantial broader economic benefits upon the completion of the expressway development. Economists and planners estimate that the initiative will contribute to an approximate 0.217 percent increase in the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), boosting connectivity and transport efficiency in the greater Dhaka area.
