Dhaka Abahani Ground Control Transferred to Sports Ministry
The control of the Abahani ground in Dhaka, leased for 99 years from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, is being transferred to the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Following the handover, the venue will be renamed the 'Dhanmondi Cricket Ground' and opened to the general public.
The control of the Abahani ground located in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, is officially being transferred to the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The property had originally been leased from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works for a duration of 99 years.
The development was officially announced in a press release issued by the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Wednesday, September 16, 2020. The official handover ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Secretariat on Thursday afternoon.
As part of this administrative change, the name of the sports venue is also being officially altered. The ground will no longer be known as the Abahani ground and is being renamed the 'Dhanmondi Cricket Ground'.
Authorities have confirmed that following the completion of the formal transfer process, the newly renamed facility will be opened up for use by the general public. This move grants public access to the prominent location in the capital.
The transition marks a significant shift in the management of the Dhanmondi sports facility, moving its oversight directly under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Youth and Sports after previously being held under the 99-year lease arrangement with the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
