The Department of Shipping (DOS), operating under the Ministry of Shipping, organized a significant seminar focused on enhancing maritime safety, security, and modern technological integration within the maritime sector of Bangladesh. The event specifically centered on the comprehensive theme titled ‘Enhancing the Safety of Ships and Life at Sea, Including Inland Waterways in Bangladesh, Through the Use of Marine Navigation and Communication Equipment Onboard Ships’.

This important educational and professional gathering took place on August 25, 2026, bringing together key maritime stakeholders to discuss critical advancements in navigational safety and communication protocols. The primary objective of the seminar was to address the vital need for modernizing safety measures across both coastal waters and the extensive inland waterways network distributed throughout Bangladesh.

Commodore Mohammad Shafiqul Bari graced the occasion by attending as the chief guest, representing the leadership of the Department of Shipping and lending official authority and strategic direction to the discussions. His presence underscored the department's ongoing commitment to improving maritime regulatory standards and operational safety protocols for vessels operating within the region.

The successful execution of the seminar was made possible through the comprehensive cooperation and support provided by Celestial Tech Limited. This collaborative effort between regulatory authorities and private sector technological entities highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing the adoption of modern marine navigation and communication equipment onboard all categories of ships.

Through such collaborative initiatives, the Department of Shipping continues to pursue its overarching mission of safeguarding human life at sea and promoting rigorous safety standards across all domestic and international maritime operations. The insights shared during the event are expected to contribute significantly to the ongoing development of the nation's water transport safety framework.
