Cox's Bazar Consumer Rights Drive Fines Two Businesses

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection has conducted a major market monitoring operation in Cox's Bazar district, targeting establishments found in violation of consumer protection regulations. The enforcement drive took place during a Wednesday afternoon session, running from midday until the late afternoon hours.

Officials executed the targeted inspections within the Banglabazar area, situated under the jurisdiction of Jhilongja union in Sadar upazila. The operation was led by Mo. Hasan-Al-Maruf, who spearheaded the oversight activities to ensure local businesses adhered strictly to lawful commercial practices and maintained consumer standards.

During the course of the inspections, authorities identified severe infractions at Al-Shifa Diagnostic Centre. The diagnostic facility was penalized for overcharging customers for medical services and for utilizing expired chemical reagents within its laboratory operations. Consequently, the establishment was handed a fine totalling 20,000 taka.

A second commercial entity, A B Chowdhury Traders, was also inspected during the afternoon drive. The business faced punitive action after investigators determined it had failed to deliver promised goods properly to consumers, violating standard sales obligations.

As a result of this specific commercial breach, A B Chowdhury Traders was issued a financial penalty amounting to 2,000 taka. The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection stated that such monitoring drives in the Sadar upazila and surrounding areas of Cox's Bazar will continue.
